Yes, I know that Wall-E is a kids movie and I have no little kids, but I heard that it was good and wanted to find out for myself, and since I can get a movie for just a buck at any Redbox, I went for it!I liked Wall-E (not loved) but then I'm not a little kid, I'm not sure what a kid would think. I will say, Pixar did a great job on the animation, as usual. The computer animation (CG) was so good, that at times it's hard to believe it wasn't real.
The movie is set in the future and only robots are left on the earth. Wall-E is there trying to clean up the garbage laden earth. He spends his days compacting garbage, with his little cockroach friend nearby. He lives an almost human life, taking a cooler with him to work, but instead of using it for food, he stashes things from the garbage mounds that he wants to keep as collectibles.
Every day is the same for Wall-E until one day when a spaceship drops off EVE. EVE is there for a reason, but other than scanning objects, we aren't sure at first what that reason is. Wall-E and EVE become friends, Wall-E even desiring to hold EVE's hand. But then a plant is found, and EVE takes it and shuts down.
The mothership comes for EVE and Wall-E chases after EVE, ending up in space. Once on Axiom (the ship that all the humans are living on) the plant shows that life can be sustained on earth again, however, not everyone wants to return to earth and so the plant is stolen and Wall-E and EVE have to get it to the machine that will identify it and let them come back to earth.
The movie depicts humans in the future, on Axiom, as being so lazy they are all fat. They never walk, but instead use hoover chairs to get them everywhere and they have screens in front of their faces constantly that prevent them from noticing anything around them.
Everything, on both earth and on Axiom, is owned by BnL. A dig on the big retailers today who try to monopolize business?
Be prepared, for the first 20 minutes, or maybe a little more, there is very little said. Wall-E and the cockroach are the only ones around and they don't really strike up any conversations. What they do though is cute and keeps your attention.
The movie did make me think how much we humans need love... to the point that my heart was melting over robots falling in love! How sappy is that?
My rating? Out of 5 stars I'd give it 4. I sat through it and it was cute, but I don't see myself watching it again.
