Today I'm very excited to bring to you a guest post by Kristina from MamaDivas.com. Kristina has some great, and easy, tips on how you can nurture your relationship while still keeping up with your daily routine. This is all part of the TwitterMoms "Blog Swap". Don't forget to go check out my post over on her site. For many, it seems inevitable that parenthood will get in the way of the romantic side of your relationship with your spouse. In between the diarrhea diapers, the constant chasing after grubby fingered tots and sweeping up torpedoed cheerios and squashed meatballs, it’s not always convenient spend a private evening connecting with your husband or wife. That might not even make it onto your top 100 priorities list! Keep the romance alive and kickin’ with the following things you can do on a day to day basis that won’t require hiring a babysitter or spending tons of cash.
- Exchange love notes with your loved one. That’s right!Remember in high school when a handwritten profession of utter devotion used to make your heart go atwitter?Be silly, be romantic.Even a simple note saying “I love you…” is thoughtful and is bound to bring smile to both your face and your hubby’s too.
- Keep the kisses going, no matter what When the tot’s crying uncontrollably and there’s a pile of laundry to be washed and one of you is on the way out the door, over time you might choose to just always forgo the “goodbye kiss.” Well… don’t. The short and sweet physical connection of a simple kiss between husband and wife is so completely wrought with emotion. You don’t want to miss out on that special, second-long bond if you don’t have to.
- Give your spouse flowers! This is a classic. Whether it’s coming from husband to wife or from wife to husband, sending flowers is always a romantic gesture. Tip: You don’t have to buy a ginormous and overpriced bouquet from 1-800-Flowers (though you can if you want to!) Sometimes the sweetest thing is but a single sunflower, rose or daisy with a short handwritten note.
- Hide little surprise gifts where your spouse is sure to find them. This could be a jar of her favorite bath salts, a mix of his favorite songs (try Mixaloo’s digital mix tape), a coupon redeemable for a massage, even a digitally touched up and freshly framed photo of the both of you from way back when. Little surprises help you constantly show that you care.
- Prepare (or buy) your significant other’s favorite snack. It is said that the best way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, but hey, it’s same with ladies, too! There’s nothing like bonding over a yummy snack, and your loved one will definitely appreciate the caring gesture.
Following through with any of these suggestions shouldn't cost you much, if anything at all. If you’ve been putting off the perfect “date night,” these ideas will definitely go a long way in keeping the romantic connection alive between you and your spouse. Little things do add up, and though you might not have the time or money available to whisk your loved one away on a champagne-drenched weekend, there are still ways to keep the spark of romance sizzling without putting a kink in your family’s daily routine.
