If you're not a NASCAR lover imagine it like the tailgating you do at a football game, but on a grander scale. Some people stay just to themselves, go to the races, come back, eat and sleep... while others party all day and into the night. We enjoyed a good balance with a nice quite spot in a nice quite neighborhood to sleep in (with electric and our TV with rabbit ears, it wasn't really like camping - well, except for the Port-o-pottie and taking a shower in a stranger's shower - yes, they let us take a shower in their house!) and it was close enough to walk to the track and to visit other campsites and see what fun could be had.
These guys had, what they considered, the perfect setup. Their RV was right on the fence on the main street where everyone walked by on their way to and from the track. They threw beads at all the girls - and no, flashing them was not necessary. Although, if it was the summer race they might have had some takers, but at 55 degrees I'm not sure they had any. But they were having fun. Music was blaring, they had a few beers, which you can see they made art out of in the fencing, (see second pic) and they were having fun yelling at everyone that went by.

Here's our camping spot. Nice and quite in Mel and Rhonda's back yard. They were great hosts. Mel stayed back and kept an eye on everything during the day and Rhonda even made us coffee on Monday morning as we packed up. (Probably grateful the weekend was over!)
A beautiful sunny day at the track!
We walked about a half mile down the road one evening and found a band playing at one campsite... they were actually very good - especially for a free concert!

That actually looks like fun...I am kinda anti Nascar but maybe it's just on the TV I dont like. If I went to an actual event it probably is a whole lot different! Thanks for sharing that one.
ReplyDeleteThe race itself is only a part of the whole event. It's basically three days of tailgating. Of course, if you follow it, you pick a driver and can spend time heckling fans of other drivers!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you guys had tons of fun! :) It's so much fun being 'trackside' - the energy is so much higher than just watching it on TV...I'm sure it's enhanced with all the partiers, too! ;)
ReplyDeleteYes those tailgate parties can get you al pumped up and it gets the adrenaline going.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing with us.
How very nice of you to offer to have Globe-Trotting Gertrude visit with you.
ReplyDeleteI will ask her and see what she says.
