Hitting The Bourbon Trail - In Style!

>> 2/25/2010

I mentioned in a previous post that the day before my 'PMS Pshyco day' was actually a great day. We spent the entire day celebrating our friend's 25th Anniversary. And, boy did we have fun!

The day was planned by their 16 year-old daughter. (What a great girl to make this happen - or even care at her age!) It started early! Way early! We met at 7:45 at their subdivision's clubhouse and went and surprised her father (our friend) when we showed up in their drive (16 of us) in a Hummer Limo! But 7:45, meant I had to leave at 7:00, which meant getting up at 6ish, and for a night owl that's not easy.  And I was so afraid I'd be late I'm not sure I ever really slept.  I tossed and turned and looked at the clock ten times.  I guess I really should have taken some sleeping pills, but instead I just suffered through the night.

Our first stop was breakfast.  I had an incredible breakfast burrito and a coffee with a little something-something in it.  What a way to start the day!

The next stop was the Buffalo Trace distillery.  Not only did I actually learn about bourbon, (which KY produces a ton of - that, race horses, and tobacco - what a great state! *sarcasm*) but we received a tasting of two bourbons and their newest product which is a bourbon cream.  It's a lot like Irish Creme but with bourbon.  Even though I'm not a bourbon lover, it was quite tasty!

Traveling on, we visited Wild Turkey next.  At this tour we got to see, and they even let you put your fingers in the fermenting mash... but no tasting!  That's alright, since we brought our own and had a drink in the Limo... (Well, as I said, I don't like bourbon so I had something else - ok, you broke me, it was a vodka drink.)

And then it was back to our cars to get ready for their actual party where there was food, cake and dancing!

What Should I Get My Sister For Her Anniversary?

>> 2/04/2010

So, my sister's anniversary is coming up. What are some great gifts for her? I'm just not very creative and I'm having a hard time thinking of something original.

So that you know a little about her, she had a blog, which she hasn't been updating, but you can see some of her past posts and delve a little into her nature by visiting Take A Break From The Daily Grind.

In brief I'll tell you that she likes crafts, scrapbooking in particular. She's sentimental and usually gives me something that reflects that such as an engraved crystal vase or a photo cake. She LOVES bath & body products and jewelry and candles, and she likes her dog to have cute little outfits. She watches kids in her home as a source of extra income, so I'm sure could use some pampering for herself. She likes customized ring tones on her cell phone. And she likes bling.

Any ideas, suggestions? Help!!

Hubby Has A Talking Lady To Get Him Where He Wants To Go

>> 5/26/2009

For our anniversary I bought DH a Garmin GPS. It was partly for him, but honestly, it was partly for me too. Not that I want to use it, (although it did come in handy on our trip to Gatlinburg!) but it was partly for me in the sense that about once a week Hubby calls and says, "I need you to look up directions for me to such-and-such." Ah, one less call a week. One less time for me to drop what I'm doing and run to the computer to give detailed instructions over the phone. And I have to admit, I don't sound nearly as lovely as the Australian voice of Karen who kindly says to turn left at the next street.

Hubby loves it too! He calls it, "his talking lady." He even used it to get down the street to his mom's house the other night - a place he has to drive by on the way home, just because he feels he has someone to keep him company! (Don't break his heart and tell him she's not real!) It did come in handy when looking for a hardware store yesterday. You can click on points of interest and it will give a list starting with the closest first. It even gives you the phone number of most of them!

I purchased this particular model (nuvi 750) because it can handle multiple addresses and tell you the quickest route to take to them. (Great for someone with a lawn care business!)

It also has an MP3 player built-in and can transmit through your FM stereo. I put more than 15 songs on the internal memory, but there is also a slot where you can expand the memory. (With a SD card, I do believe, not a compact flash card -- although these are what higher end DSLR cameras generally use.)

And, as if that wasn't enough, it will also show media. So now when he turns it on he gets a picture of me and our son. So, even though the "talking lady" may take him where he wants to go, I'm the face he better associate with it!
